West Coast Seeds, Russell Hybrids Lupins Flower Seeds - Detailed Description
Elevate your garden with the vibrant spectacle of Russell Hybrids Lupins Flower Seeds. These majestic blooms form striking spires of colour in the early summer, offering a breathtaking feature to any setting. Ideal for weaving through cottage or wildflower gardens or for a dramatic mass planting along borders, these seeds produce flowers in a kaleidoscope of hues, including purple, deep blue, red, pink, yellow, cream, and white.
Soak the Russell Hybrids lupine seeds for optimal germination for 24 hours or nick the seed ends before planting. Sow seeds 5mm (1/8") deep in pots during early spring or summer to enjoy their splendour the following year. This variety encapsulates the full spectrum of lupine colours in one package, allowing for a diverse and colourful display.
For gardeners who prefer specific colours, mature plants offer the opportunity to propagate. Gently separate the small offsets at the base and replant to cultivate more of your desired hues. Beyond their aesthetic appeal, lupines benefit the garden environment, as they naturally fix nitrogen in the soil, enriching it for future planting.
Dive into a world of colour and natural beauty with Lupins Flower Seeds, transforming your garden into a summer showcase of towering, colourful spires.

How to Grow Lupins
Planting Schedule:
To get a head start on the growing season, begin sowing Lupin seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the anticipated last frost date. Utilize peat or coir pots to avoid disturbing the roots upon transplanting.
Alternatively, Lupins can be directly sown into the garden early in the spring when a slight frost risk remains or during autumn in areas with milder winters.
Seed Starting:
For indoor starts, enhance germination by scarifying the seeds through chipping or soaking in water for 24 hours. Plant seeds shallowly, just a few millimetres (1/8 inch) deep, in soil at a cool 12-18°C (55-65°F). Expect seeds to sprout within 14 to 60 days—patience is key during this stage.
Growing:
Once seedlings have developed, space or thin them to 30-60cm (12-24 inches) apart; this spacing accommodates their growth and natural spreading habit. Post-bloom, trim the flower stems to the plant's base to encourage future growth.
Early spring is the ideal time to divide mature plants for propagation, focusing on preserving specific colours. Note that plants which self-sow may predominantly revert to a pale blue shade.
