How to Grow Arugula
Planting Schedule:
To enjoy a continuous harvest, begin sowing Astro arugula directly into the garden from mid-March to April and then again in September for a fall and winter yield. This cool-season, annual salad green thrives in the cooler temperatures of spring and fall.
Be mindful that arugula will quickly bolt and produce seeds in hot climates. The ideal soil temperature for seed germination ranges between 4°C and 12°C (40°F to 50°F).
Sowing Instructions:
Plant seeds up to 5mm (¼ inch) deep into well-draining soil in an area that receives full sunlight. Space seedlings 10-15cm (4-6 inches) apart within rows that are 45-60cm (18-24 inches) apart.
Growing:
You can expect seeds to germinate within 4-8 days under optimal conditions. With ideal care, at least 75% of seeds should successfully germinate.
Ensure the soil remains moist until germination occurs, and maintain a weed-free environment afterward. Seeds will reach maturity and be ready for harvest 30-40 days after planting.
Harvest:
Using scissors for harvesting promotes a cut-and-come-again approach, allowing for multiple harvests from the same plant. The baby leaves of Astro arugula are mild and tender.
This plant is a perennial, meaning it will return each spring. Regular harvesting encourages the growth of new, tender leaves. Trim the young foliage as needed to enjoy a continuous supply of fresh greens.
Arugula Diseases & Pests
Flea Beetles:
These pests cause tiny holes in the leaves. If they appear, plant two weeks later to avoid their laying cycle or under light row cover.
Astro Arugula Seeds
Astro arugula seeds cultivate plants featuring more streamlined, less lobed leaves. They bring a subtle yet complex flair to salads with their mild taste.
Ideal for cultivating tender baby greens during the early spring, fall, and even in the chill of winter due to their exceptional cold resistance, you can harvest Astro Arugula as soon as 21 days after planting.
Astro Arugula excels in microgreen cultivation, offering a deliciously tender bite with a robust, nutty, spicy flavour profile, adding a distinctive zest to salads, sandwiches, and pizzas. Its resilience to cold enhances its milder taste in cooler conditions.
Additionally, it's a nutritious choice, rich in vitamin A and potassium, elevating your meals with flavour and health benefits.
