SmartSand Polymeric Sand is designed for residential installations such as driveways, pathways, and patios. It's the perfect choice for the jointing of interlocking pavers, providing a stable, enduring joint that can withstand regular traffic and the elements.
This polymeric sand is a mix of ASTM C144 graded sand and specialized polymers, which, when applied dry, solidify upon activation with water. The result is a joint that effectively resists erosion, weeds, and insects.

Techniseal SmartSand Polymeric Sand - Additional Information
Installation Conditions:
- Only suitable for use on pavers laid over a drainage base and bed (sand-set), following ICPI guidelines.
- Ambient temperature must remain above 0 °C (32 °F) for 48 hours post-installation.
- The surface and joints must be dry before application.
- Deactivate any sprinkler systems.
- No rain should be forecasted within the next 24 hours.
Required Tools:
- Street broom with semi-rigid bristles.
- Leaf blower.
- Spray nozzle and garden hose.
- Plate compactor for mechanical compaction.
Compaction Information:
- Mechanical compaction is essential when using SMARTSAND® Polymeric Sand. Lack of compaction may affect joint integrity and performance.
- For joint widths more significant than 0.6 cm (1/4") where mechanical compaction is not possible or not traditionally used, consider using Techniseal's NOCO™ polymeric joint.
Drying Requirements:
- For optimal cohesion and resistance, the jointing sand must be arid before exposure to rain. A minimum of 24 hours of drying time is required.
- The drying period may extend in colder or more humid conditions, especially for installations with wider joints (over 13 mm or 1/2").
- Like paint, polymeric sand must dry to polymerize and deliver its full benefits properly. However, the sand can withstand unexpected rain 60 minutes post-installation.
- Pedestrian Traffic: Allowed immediately.
- Vehicular Traffic: Wait 48 to 72 hours—block access during this period.
